Watson-Marlow Ltd has been awarded the EcoVadis gold rating for sustainability across the topics of labour and human rights, ethics, environment and procurement. The award means that Watson-Marlow Ltd is in the top 6% of all companies assessed by EcoVadis, a trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, and in the top 2% of companies which manufacture general-purpose machinery.
Sustainability is an integral part of business strategy to create long term value. Investors, customers and partners all consider that sustainability is a key deciding factor when selecting a company to support. Therefore, it is crucial that businesses can prove their sustainability credentials in order to remain competitive.
The EcoVadis sustainability assessment provides companies with a trusted business sustainability rating that enables transparency with customers and provides guidelines to improve sustainability further. Watson-Marlow Ltd’s achievement of a gold EcoVadis rating builds upon the silver rating it received in 2021 and demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to sustainability.
“Watson-Marlow is a world-leading fluid path provider and we believe it is imperative that we manage our operations in a responsible manner. Achieving a gold EcoVadis rating for sustainability is a testament to the hard work we put in everyday to become more sustainable.”
Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions (WMFTS) follows a roadmap to sustainability called ‘One Planet’ in partnership with its parent company, Spirax- Sarco Engineering plc. The roadmap guides all of the Group’s operations as it works with others, including suppliers, customers and local communities. WMFTS has made big steps towards sustainability, including committing to reaching net-zero for its scope 1 and 2 emissions (emissions that are in its direct control), and reducing scope 3 emissions (those the company is indirectly responsible for, up and down its value chain), by 2030.
“EcoVadis is an internationally recognised rating and will therefore ensure everyone who works with us can trust that Watson-Marlow is playing its part for the planet,” said Calum. “We want to be ahead of the curve and the fact that we’re in the top 2% of general-purpose machinery manufacturers according to EcoVadis’ sustainability assessment demonstrates that.”
Bill Skeates, Head of Sustainability at WMFTS, commented “Achieving the gold rating is really motivating for us. We know we are on the right track, our next steps are to support our supply chain where we need to achieve the same high standards for sustainability.”
